The TEA or Texas Education Agency has put together the TExES exams, and one of them, under code 613, is the Spanish exam. Syllabus of TExES Languages Other Than English (LOTE) - Spanish (613) Test


The LOTE Spanish exam consists of six domains, which include:

  1. Instruction and Assessment
  2. Cultural Understanding
  3. Interpretive Listening
  4. Interpretive Reading
  5. Written Expression
  6. Oral Expression

The goal of this assessment is to rate the knowledge and readiness of a new teacher for their students and educational career in general, in the theme of the Spanish language.

Format of TExES Languages Other Than English (LOTE) - Spanish (613) Test


This TExES LOTE test is computer-administered and it features:

  1. 120 selected-response questions,
  2. 3 speaking constructed-response tasks,
  3. 5 writing constructed-response tasks.
  4. Each section is timed, and the test can be taken up to five hours in duration. The testing time or time spent actually answering questions lasts up to four fours and five minutes, a ten-minute pause can be taken after finishing the speaking tasks. Of course, a mandatory fifteen minutes comes first for signing agreements and a short introduction video. The exam includes some new additions like:

    • On-screen character selector for the writing tasks
    • Microphone and headset for the speaking tasks

    For taking a TExES test, a teacher needs their TEA ID or teaching ID for the state of Texas. Every teacher with an Educator Preparation Program or EPP can manage a TEA account, which will automatically be assigned with an identification number. After acquiring a TEA ID, one is ready to apply online over the TExES website for taking the 613 test. At the time of registration, a fee of $116 must be paid in advance. Additional fees for taking the test may apply. After paying the fee, the application will be valid for 170 days after applying.

    TExES scores range between 100 and 300. To pass, one must receive at least a score of 240 points. All positive or negative scores are available shortly after finishing the test, at the CAT sites throughout Texas. Official scores with points are available at 10.00 PM CST on certain yearly dates.
