Praxis Geometry Exam


Candidates need to acquire the relevant knowledge and skills for the teaching career by taking the Praxis test. There are several Praxis tests and the Praxis Geometry test is specifically designed to assess the mathematical knowledge and competencies that are required by the candidate to be a Geometry Teacher. The candidates are required to thoroughly understand and work around concepts related to mathematics, patterns, and justifiable statements using logical arguments and create proof concepts.

The exam is not designed to be in sync with any specific mathematics curriculum. It is specifically intended to be consistent with recommendations based on National studies on mathematics education such as the National Governors Association Center for Best practices and Council of Chief State School officers Common Core State Standards in Mathematics, National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, and Council of the Accreditation of Educator Preparation.

Candidates must have completed a Bachelor's degree or a program in mathematics or mathematics education from a recognized university.

    Format for Praxis Geometry Exam (5163)

    Praxis Geometry Exams are computer-based examinations. While appearing for the exam, candidates are initially required to provide proper identification at the test center. Post this, they are provided an opportunity to learn how the interface works and how answers are to be responded to.

    New question formats are delivered from time to time in interactive ways to access the candidate’s knowledge. These tests may include audio and video components like an animation or movie clip with graphics or pictures.

    • Candidates are allotted 130 minutes for the examination.
    • The total number of questions is 50 which includes selected-response questions, numeric entry questions.
    • On-screen graphing calculators are provided.
    • Interactive Questions are in the following form- Clicking more than one option, typing in an entry box, clicking checkboxes, clicking parts of a graphic, clicking on sentences, selecting answers from the drop-down menus.

      Candidates must register for a test and should confirm their state or agency testing requirements.

      Candidates can select the test center that is the most convenient to them. These tests are administered through the International network of test centers and this also includes Prometric Test Centers apart from other universities.       Passing scores vary by state or the agency and they are not set by the ETS. Candidates can find a minimum passing score for examination depending upon the state. For example- the Praxis Geometry Exam minimum passing score for certain states are- Alaska- 148, Alabama- 148, Arkansas- 139, and Hawaii- 148.
