Missouri General Education Assessment (MoGEA) Study Guide
MoGEA- The test for admission into the undergraduate educator program in Missouri began in September 2013 and has replaced the College BASE test. Candidates who wish to seek entry into a MoGEA preparation program are required to pass the Missouri General Education assessment and are required to qualify the same with all subsets.
It measures competencies in English, Language Arts, writing, mathematics, science, and social studies. It is a contemporary assessment program that measures educators' capabilities, pedagogical knowledge. It is aligned as per Missouri and National Standards.
Eligibility for Missouri General Education Assessment (MoGEA)
Students who wish to enter the teacher education program are eligible to take the exam. Students must pass all exams of the MoGEA. The test needs to be undertaken for all BSED and BME students and is NOT required for post-baccalaureate, or a student pursuing initial certification through a graduate program- MAT, SEACT, VIP, Counselling, teacher certification students, counseling).
Syllabus for Missouri General Education Assessment (MoGEA)
The assessment for the exam includes certain subsets. They include-
- Reading comprehension and interpretation- 39 MCQs Focuses on demonstration of the ability to identify the ideas and supporting details in a college-level text.
- Mathematics- 40 MCQs Understanding of numbers and algebra. Understanding of geometry. Understanding of statistics.
- Science and Social Studies- 40 MCQs Focuses on the understanding of scientific concepts. Understanding the fundamentals of social concepts.
- Writing- response-based question. It is a written assignment. The candidates are required to pass all four subtests.
- Reading comprehension and Interpretation: 75 minutes
- Mathematics: 75 minutes
- Science and Social studies: 60 minutes
- Writing: 60 minutes
- Candidates are provided with one opportunity to register to take all 4 subsets in a single session.
- Candidates may also register to take each subset independently.
- Candidates must understand the structure and the content of the test.
- They must plan an effective course of study for the exam.
- They must learn strategies for successful test-taking.
- Read thoroughly the competencies for the test you are preparing.
- Develop a study plan to focus on the studies.
- Follow the instructions as provided in the exam.
- Take note of the time during the examination and pace it out effectively.
- While answering determine the best answer. Your response towards each MCQ should be the best answer to the alternatives provided.
- Guess wisely. Attempt to answer all the questions as you will not be penalized for an incorrect answer.
- Respond to the constructed-based response carefully. Be sure to read and respond to each part fully and carefully.
Format for Missouri General Education Assessment (MoGEA)
The format for MoGEA includes a computer-based examination at a Pearson Vue Center in Missouri and Nationally. It is internet-based and is also an online proctored test with multiple-choice questions and written assignments. The allotted time to complete the exam includes-
All these 4 subtests include 4 ½ hours testing time and 15 minutes break between subsets 2 and subsets 3. During online proctoring, no restroom breaks are allowed.
The passing score varies and is dependent on the state regulations. And candidates must pass all 4 subsets.
How to apply for Missouri General Education Assessment (MoGEA)?
Candidates can apply online, all year round and are available on a first-come first-served basis. For online proctoring, it is available by appointment with an online proctor during one week testing time for each month. Tests sites are available at various test sites in Missouri.
Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary education has implemented this policy where-
USD 59 is the test fee for all subsets and USD 25 for a single subset.
